I'm developing a site for a friend's business. He is designing the front-end and I'm slicing/coding the pages and using the CodeIgniter PHP framework to develop a custom CMS. Thing is I'm having to design the back-end interfaces myself and am hoping to find an existing template, but not having any luck. Does anyone know of an existing back-end template that can easily be adapted for a custom CMS? Something that looks similar to the WordPress admin pages?

Templates can be as simple as CSS stylesheets or as complex as customized files with all of the following: HTML, CSS and macros that expand to other embedded templates, in XML/XSLT format.

It's kinda tough for us to recommend a specific template system to you because you've customized your CMS. It's unique, so you might need to describe more than what you want it to look like, but rather how it functions if the links below do not help.

Here are numerous methods (generic advice):

Download Free HTML layout templates
2400 Joomla Templates
Standard CSS layout templates
Free WordPress Templates
Templates via XSLT (advanced)

I learned a valuable lesson about downloading full 'themes' while working on my first Wordpress site the other day. It seems some of those free sites add code for spam into the templates. I noticed odd links appearing on my site on their own. I did a google search, and it was easy to fix. But still something to be careful of.

The problem with those sites is they are only offering free front-end templates. I'm looking specifically for a back-end template. I found sites that have what I'm looking for, except none of the templates are free. I think I'm just going to make my own using screenshots of other CMS back-ends.

My web software company (not advertising) has developed a nice CMS style framework which is backend only and supports practically any front end.
It's PHP/MySQL driven and has its own 'Static' template for the backend functions such as adding categories/pages/users/perms etc.

The backend 'template' as it were, is actually just passing things to the frameworks itself and can be altered to match your site.

If you are interested you could contact me and we could talk about a price for using my framework.
Alternatively if you want to use your own that you've made, the back-end design can pretty much look like what ever you want seeing as only the admins would use it.

If you are like me and have no personal design flare the back-end can look like crap as long as someone else designs a stunning front end to be seen by the end user.

Sounds like a great solution, aside from customizing one's own, if the OP is willing. Thanks for posting it without blatantly advertising, that shows real class. You earned, in my book, the chance to post the link to your product here if you wish. Please feel free to do so. I'd like to check it out myself.
